Gotta run to celebrate my niece's birthday tonight.
Paige's birthday was a success! Friday night we went to Ruby Tuesday's with Paige's friend Laura. Then took them to "The Big Mall" and then came home for a sleep over that lasted until 3:00 pm with another trip to our local mall.
Her cake turned out pretty.
Paige got gift card, money art supplies, and a i-pod video nano. She had a regular nano and guess WHO got that one. ME! The celebrations not over yet...a bigger sleep over next Friday.
Saturday night my family came over to celebrate Paige's and Randy's birthday. His is tomorrow. We always have a good time especially when I get to see my brother.
This morning was the start of a hectic week. I had to have my car serviced, so on the way home I stopped by Value Village. I found some goodies for spring decorating.
The woven blanket is for the bedroom. The weird little nursery rhyme plate is in the kitchen/hall now. The paint by numbers will hang in the laundry once we finished redoing it. Hopefully by May...the table cloth for Easter lunch and the vintage sheets will be used for the material in the laundry room.
I'm getting excited about spring and all the changes it brings...both outside and internal. I've got some changes and new things for myself...more later. Off to take Paige to get her permit and then to the JV Baseball game.
It's hard to believe that my Paige is 15 today. It just seems like yesterday that she was born. Paige is an exceptional child...I mean not that she's taking Honors courses...but in the way she lives and expresses herself. My friend Sandra always called Paige the little Bohemian. At 2 I started letting her pick out her own clothes and even though she would put stripes and patterns together, it was her choice. Paige would draw for hours at her little pink table and her favorite deign show was Christopher Lowell. Over the years I have stood back and let her make her own fashion choices...always a mix that she made her own...now knowing that she will follow her own dreams even if they are different than what I want for her. (Thank goodness we're on the same page for now). She's still my baby, letting me tuck her in at night, which always comes with deep conversation, and wanting mama there when she's sick. But...now's the time for her to slowly start to spread her wings and I've got my scissors ready to ease the apron strings alittle. Paige told me last night that no matter how old she got...that I would always be her mama.
The time of year is coming again. The time when you turn a year older, and hopefully a year wiser. Where you and your closest friends come together and celebrate this event. Especially for a teenager like myself. We party like there's no tomorrow and all end up crashing in various areas of our den. All of this mayhem caught on tape some way or another. I always love to go back and watch the tape over again. Sometimes I can't even watch it all the way through due to my sides being split open with hysterical laughter. I am anticipating this birthday even more because I am now a high school student. My first birthday in a new chapter for me. I admit I love to talk, and will talk about anything that comes to my mind. So lunch is the perfect period during my school day to speak my thoughts. I sit at a table with three close friends of mine. Laura, Katie, and Luke. Now we have some pretty in depth conversations and some that are just for our enjoyment. Well last Friday, I think it was, I decided to bring up the subject of my birthday and my party. Katie, being Katie, had to put in her two cents about me being to old to have a party like I usually do. I didn't like being told this and I told her so. We ended up in another non-serious argument about the way I celebrate. (I was told silly-string wasn't age appropriate). In an attempt to end our fighting, Laura brought up something I love about my birthday. What I want. Before I could respond to her the bell rang and I was left to think about her question. Sure there are a ton of things I want for my birthday. A really nice horse, a new iPod, the My Chem DVD I really want... Heck, even ownership over the members of My Chem. See I have my quirky, obsessive mind controlling me. =D I could even ask to become a character in my beloved anime, Sailor Moon. The question followed me the rest of the day until I finally came to a conclusion. What I really wanted was to keep something I already had. My friends. I could get all the gifts I desire, but if I don't have my friends then none of that would matter. Plus we couldn't have a party! I really love my friends.

At the thrift store I always scan to see what catches my eye. I found an amazing real vintage dress for $2.50 and it actually fit...usually they are very small... and I love it. The dress is made by Derby Knit and is fully lined. The creme color makes it so versatile.
It is belted with a tiny belt and sort of woven in and out of the waist.
The lining is trimmed with vintage lace. What a wonderful find!!!!!
Our county JUST starting recycling with our garbage pickup. It does take alot of extra time but I was amazed at the amount of things this household has to be recycled. Every Monday I get the stuff ready to take to the road.
My garbage container use to be full but now I have room to spare!
Other than the usual recycling
, I realized I reuse more things...like using paper towel holders for boot supports...on these thrifted winter boots. I use cloth towels/napkins more than paper ones.
I think thrifting is very green and I do that extremely well. Like buying handmade items such as this pretty crochet item.
I have a huge amount of saved bubble wrap that I have acquired. Paige loves it and she would like to have her room wall papered in it or something. Weird I know but it would be unique. My niece is VERY green and has influenced my thinking. My next step is to make some market totes for the grocery store instead of paper or plastic. It might not be easy being green...sorry Kermit...but there certainly are many ways to be.
I love boots. When I was 5 in 1967, all the rage was go-go boots. I had a pair of white go-go boots and loved them dearly. I still love boots and currently I'm looking for just the right pair of red ones. Here's my collection so far.
The brown ones are so comfortable...they all are.
Yesterday a new Goodwill opened up in Kannapolis. I went to check it out this morning and there must have been 50 people in there. The store was packed with merchandise but was pricey on some things like linens. I'll go back after the newness goes away. I did pass by Salvation Army and found this was 1.49. I just love canvas art.
When I see something that I really love, it speaks to me and I know it will fit in at my home. This picture has beautiful colors and I love deer...I remember the paint by numbers and this is the prettiest one yet. This whimsical lady danced right into my collection as well.
I love unique looking women and creatures and this is my first attempt at one.
I wanted her to be folk-art like.
Here are some of my walls of girls, etc. Most are from my favorite 4 etsy artist...Timssally, AshleyG, ArtsandGhosts, and my very favorite TheBlackApple. I think it's everybody's favorite on her shop update day. Wow.
My husband is very talented. He builds race car chassis for a living and sometimes I can get him to build things for me. I love rusty things especially in the yard and he took an old pop-up canopy frame and built this house trellis. I love it and can't wait to plant jasmine and gourds on it.
In Paige's bathroom, it's black and white. Her old shower curtain was ruined in the wash so She got this one from Urban Outfitters. Here is the one in her bathroom. She has started putting stuff into her's. Here are a few of the things...Paige w/Titan at the MP parade, Sailor Moon, and My Chemical Romance.
Speaking of My Chemical Romance, my girl is quite complex. Here is a shot of her pink bedroom walls with her MCR poster in all their black darkness. What a combo.
