Little projects and what nots

Yesterday was one of those days when I worked on small things that have been on my project list for awhile. I've had 2 frames that I framed in vintage fabric and hung over the mantle. One is a floral and the other has REALLY special meaning. It's the actual fabric from my brother's boy scout sleeping bag. He's 53 and it was almost thread bare. I've been saving it forever. Dsci0019 Dsci0017Next I put some corn stalks and a pumpkin around the post lantern.Dsci0014 I secured the stalks with an old belt.Dsci0015 Dsci0023 This is a print called Serenity by Etsy artist Hannah Gayle. I love mannequins and this one had such a pleasant face that I couldn't resist.

Last night Paige and Randy went to see Breaking Benjamin in Charlotte. Paige had me alter her new Pink Floyd tee. It turned out pretty good. Dsci0010 Dsci0011 Dsci0013 While they were gone, I worked out in the yard until dark. By now I would be planting ornamental kale, cabbage and pansies but we're until water restrictions. I wish it would rain!!!!

Odd finds at the thrift store

Mom and I went to Salisbury today. After lunch we stopped by the thrift store and I found some odd things. The first is a holder for rags. It looks hand painted.Dsci0001 Dsci0002 I found a bottle with the letter A.Dsci0003 Dsci0004 I love this platter .Dsci0005 You never know what you'll find but it's always fun looking.

Wisdom from a teenager...

Last night my teenage neighbor called me as he does every year about this time and asked if I wanted any corn stalks. His family owns 600, yes 600, acres across the street from. He picked me and Paige up in his Mule (motorized 4wheel drive cart) and off we went. We took the scenic route and talked about nature, school and such. He's a senior and Paige is a freshman at the same school and he looks after her. They were talking about a boy she likes and he said "do you want me to talk to him for you?" and Paige said "no way!" Then he turned to her and said these words of wisdom that can apply to ANYTHING!  Cody said" Paige get crazy, just don't get stupid." I thought that was good advice. You have more fun when you get crazy, just don't to something stupid or that you'll regret. Pretty insightful for a teenager. Cody_007 Cody_008 Oh yeah, we did get the corn stalks, corn husks and even wild turkey feathers. Here's Paige with them in her hair.Cody_011

Thrifting finds

This morning I had to take the ole' Volvo for an oil change. It dealership just happens to be near the thrift store. There are my  goodies. Dsci0002 Dsci0003 Dsci0004 I got 2 throws and a scarf. I can't tell if it's crochet or what but it's funky and pink. Here's a close up.Dsci0005

Saturday night my mirror in the hallway fell from the wall. It didn't break but mostly everything on the table below did. I had 3 glass cake pedestals, figurines and a vintage hand mirror and much more. There was so much glass everywhere. Now I guess I'll have to replace with more stuff. Dsci0038 Here's what it looked like before.

Treasures of the years

My style is definitely not minimal. I love to surround myself with things I love and it seems everything in my house has a story. As I was dusting and putting items in the right places, I started to look around and notice all of my trinkets and such. I love everything in my house but here are a few of my favorites.Dsci0006 My kitchen gargoyle keeping guard over the house. Dsci0007 The Holly Hobbie lunch box and thermos Paige got me while she was in Charleston on a field trip. Quite a surprise!Dsci0008 My prized Girl Scout vest with all of my earned badges on it. I loved girl scouts. We did a lot of camping and outdoor activities. Dsci0012 A Thermos I bought at the Kannapolis Antique Mall that says Holiday on it. I love the teal color as well.Dsci0013 This was a wonderful find that my friend at the KAM found for me on one of his outings. M metal doll house in pretty good condition. Dsci0014_2 The last item has been mine for many years. It's an old hair dryer from the 60's that still works. My mom use to roll my hair in pink foam rollers and then put the cap on my head and it would really dry my hair. What memories!

Finds from today and outdoor light choice

Today my mom and I went to the Salisbury Emporium. We hadn't been since June due to school being out and the hot weather. Here's what found it's way back to my house today.Dsci0001 A glass exit light fixture. I'm going to put a tea candle in it. Dsci0002 A wooden picture frame. Dsci0003 Two linen kitchen hand towels. I have something in mind for them. Maybe a kitchen valance.

Here's my choice for the new modern outside lights for our house. Dsci0005 I'll have more picture when everything is done outside. Now that the weather is right for home improvement, I hope this project goes fast.

My trinket tree

It's known that I love all things rusty...for inside and out. My mom was throwing this tree out and I grabbed it because I had an idea. It was an Easter tree but I put a black glass doorknob on top and hang rustic finds on it. It's a work in progress but it brings a smile to me every time I find something to add. Art and Ghosts, one of my favorite blogs and artist, has a new site called We're all mad here. She has neat dolls and artists with links that she favors. It's really interesting! Check it out. I just received this great print from her. You can get your here.

Organizational inspirtation and other stuff

Finally the autumn feeling is in the air. A chilly morning for North Carolina. It's always a good thing to open up the windows and let the cool breeze come through. Around this time, I always switch the bedspreads, throws and pillows to the fall/winter ones. I even have seasonal curtains for the kitchen. This is the time when the jackets and hats start to come out. I need some organization near my back door where EVERYBODY comes through. Here is some ideas from the new Pottery Barn and Ikea catalogs. Dsci0046 Dsci0047 Dsci0052_2 Dsci0053_2I like the idea of having a basket for each person.

I am getting my nest ready for winter and colder temps but I love putting out seasonal things. I found these on Etsy and plan to leave them out all year. Dsci0027  They are stars made out of drink cans. Here's the shop.Corrabelle's Shop.Speaking of Etsy shops, Miss Emily is having a print sale today. It's always worth the while to check out her shop. I bought this from her last year and it's still my favorite purse. Dsci0051 Dsci0045 Ashes is sleeping on my new pillow I made Friday. As long as he's comfy.

Finally inspired and misc. foolishness

With the anticipation of cooler weather Sunday, I finally feel inspired to do something creative. Today I went and picked out some material to make some pillows for various rooms. I wanted to find some fabric to bring a punch  and liven things up a bit. Dsci0014 Dsci0015 Dsci0016 Dsci0017 Dsci0018

At the grocery store today, I found these Halloween M&M's. I know it's early but I couldn't resist. They have jack o lantern faces on them.Dsci0012

Here's some crazy pictures from last night. Just messin' around.Dsci0006 Ashes in a weird position.Dsci0010_2 Paige taking a bubble bath.

I'm still here...

This past Friday I hear a pop then a shh.... It was my hot water bursting. Luckily I was home and my neighbor was home too. I called him and he cut the water off so I wouldn't have a bigger mess. Saturday after the water heater was replaced, my upright freezer was accidentally unplugged and never plugged back in. Water leaked out but thankful not much was in the freezer. That clean up took up most of the weekend although we did go to our county fair Friday night. Paige and her friend went off to ride rides, only coming back for more money, and Randy and I walked around, ate fair junk and looked at all the exhibits. It was a good time .

I thrifted alittle to day and found these aprons. Dsci0001 Look at the cute ribbon on this one.Dsci0002 Dsci0003 This one is a full length apron with alot of pockets. Nothing like alittle thrifting to bring the spirits up.

Hopefully the rest of the week will be smooth and easy and I hope cooler. Enough of the hot weather already.
